finding joy

25 Sep

Do you experience joy everyday?

I had a reiki treatment last week and the therapist told me I need to allow myself to experience more joy in my life. Her comment has been food for thought because I thought I was feeling joy in my life.

This week I find myself asking, “What is my definition of joy?” Is joy an all encompassing feeling that fills me from head to toe with warmth and contentment? Is joy the smile that sweeps across my face when I find something touching or funny? Is joy the internal “ahhh” feeling I get when I take a sip of a really good latte or cup of coffee?

What brings you joy? I’d love to have a discussion about this as I wonder how many people experience joy on a daily basis?

inspired to say the least

I love watching people speak about their passion. It’s uplifting, inspiring and I get caught up in their energy to live my passion too.

Last night I watched a webinar of Caroline Myss. She is one of my favourite authors so I sat smiling and nodding my head throughout the entire 90 minutes.

The information she shared has caused me to rethink, reevaluate and change my thought pattern. She recommends that we live a detached life. Not detached from feeling or caring, but detached from labeling something good or bad. All is well because we are constantly learning the life lessons we need.

Tonight I walked my Boxer who is normally very reactive to other dogs, and I tried very hard to detach from my feelings of how she would freak out when we walked a past a particular dog, who always charges at the fence. You know what?  As silly as the exercise seemed when I headed out the door, it worked! We walked past said dog’s backyard and other than a sniff, Ruby kept walking by without lunging at the fence.

Okay so this was a fairly simple exersice, but a good one to start with.

Baby steps…that’s all.

it all makes sense now

Do you ever have the feeling you are not on the right path? Heading in a particular direction even though your gut is telling you to turn left or right?

I have that feeling.

It’s time to pay attention to the door so the next time I hear opportunity knock, I answer as quickly as I can! This weekend, I was told that I’ve already lost one opportunity and only two more will come. I am waiting expectantly, as the next knock is due anytime.

How exciting!

I love new opportunities to grow, learn, challenge myself. If I’m not learning, I feel like a stagnant pond waiting for something to come along to create a ripple.

Along with paying attention to my “door”, I also have a new mantra. Connected, grounded and protected. I have been encouraged to say it twice daily but as it’s new, and I love the way the words roll off my tongue, I’m saying it every hour.

As I feel more connected, grounded and protected, I also know that I’ll start saying “NO”. I’m a donkey, a loving, caring, helpful donkey who needs to start making people carry their own burdens. I’ll refuse in the most polite way to let them down easy. It’s going to shock people…including me!

How often do you say no to people? All the time? A healthy number of times?

Words are powerful and can be used to heal or harm. I believe in using my powers for good. Compassion, celebration of Gaia and our shared humanity, random kindness, the wonder of the human spirit, the poetry of empathy, all inspire me daily.
